The Scotts family and dairy

Thursday 2nd
Nigel, Sandy, Ester and Josh Wittwer took us out to Stuart and Alice Scotts dairy which was 1 hour drive towards Pemberton from Busselton. Again very interesting country, hilly and tall trees.
This was in the Scotts house after they gave us a great bbq lunch. Alice Scott on the left trying to leave the picture , Tim with some kids jumper on his shoulder, Ester Wittwer in the middle, Sandy Wittwer with her back to the camera and Stuart Scott on the right. The Scotts are from New Zealand so a long way from home. It has been great getting to know them.
We then drove to their dairy to watch the milking. Mostly Friesian cows. This is the second older lot of cows coming in for milking. I think they said 500 in both first and second lots. A lot of cows! They run about 1200 cattle, plus the cats that call the dairy home, the frogs and ducks that love the dams!
They have a rotary dairy that holds 60 cows at a time and it's amazing how quick they are on then they back off all by themselves and head off out to the paddock. Alice was telling us that some cows are a bit cheeky and try to get back on when the workers aren't looking as they know they get good food when they are on. We really enjoyed our day there.
