Yanchep

Thursday 9th
It was an interesting night, we have since found out, when we camped on the side of the road in some trees , somewhere , a few kms north of Yanchep. We couldn't find our camping spot so we just found some place to pull off out of the way. Since then people have been asking us how we got through the night of the cyclonic winds! It was wet and windy but it wasn't cyclonic, and they can't believe how we missed it. I believe we had angels just calming that wind before it got to us.
We had our toilet up and all. That would of been a balloon in the sky if it were that bad.
Here's our toilet/shower that is still a bit of a novelty to use. The kids are great at helping set it up but we have had a few spacial issues. The toilet is still being placed too close to the door so when you go to stand up you nearly fall backwards, pants down, tripping over the toilet and the whole things being tipped up on top of you. Oh the visual picture of that is ugly. So we have sat down with the construction crew and they now understand that the toilet needs to be placed at the back for OHS reasons!
So after the stormy night and all the packing up we headed back to Yanchep National Park to have more of a look around.

The koalas that are in the park. We googled koalas in WA and found there are no koalas in the wild.
This is us walking in Boomerang Gorge. You wouldn't even know it's there as the entrance is small and then it opens up into this gorge. A lady working in the park stopped us and told us we should walk through and it was very nice.
After our adventures at Yanchep NP we headed north to the Pinnacles.
The beginning of our Pinnacle walk. Zane said "these aren't yellow, they are grey." Apparently the book they read at school before we left, Are We There Yet, shows the Pinnacles as yellow but I said to Zane that the sand is very yellow.
After that we drove to our camping spot 30km south of Dongara at Arrowsmith.

  1. Great to read the story of your trip!

It brought back many memories of our own lap of Oz in 2009.

I liked this post as we live in Yanchep and our first stop on the road was Arrowsmith - we threaten our kids that we will go there on holidays again...

Our blog is at www.backyardmissionary.com and from April 2009 onwards. Hoping to do it again one day :)
